Roma Heer: Nupur Asthana is back after her much appreciated film Mujhse Fraandship Karoge, this time with better starcast & parent of Y Films; YRF & ofcourse bigger film Bewakoofiyaan. The film stars Ayushmann KhurranaSonam Kapoor &Rishi Kapoor and in the season where almost all the rom-coms are getting thumbs down from audience, this one is expected to end the jinx. But, does film really presents something different or it comes as like regular stuff we are used to. Lets discuss. Over to you,Gautam!

Gautam Batra: I may appear too rude to say that but Bewakoofiyaan is just like a regular rom-com that has nothing novel to watch. Also, the little uniqueness & recession thing that it has in its plot may appear good to only a section of audience but rest of the audience may get an average fair.

Roma Heer: What is the plot of Bewakoofiyaan?

Gautam Batra: Mohit (Ayushmann) & Mayra (Sonam) are in love with each other but Sonam’s Dad VK Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor) doesn’t approves Mohit because he earns less than Mayra. Mohit starts trying to impress VK Sehgal but his life goes haywire when his company is hit by recession & he loses his job.

Mayra lies her father that Mohit still has job who is now completely dependent on her income. On the other hand Mayra’s father is doing complete enquiry of Mohit to find one fault in him & reject his marriage with his daughter.

What happens then? Does VK Sehgal ever know about the lie of Mayra & Mohit. If yes then what he do? Does Mohit gets a job in between and gets married to Mayra? and if not is he happy living a life on Mayra’s income? Watch out the film to know.

Roma Heer: Story looks okeyish but I am curious to know is there any Bewakoofi done in Screenplay?

Gautam Batra: Habib Faisal’s story had potential but screenplay doesn’t matches the expectations from a romantic comedy. First of all, in the story there is scope of lot of emotions & comedy but sadly the screenplay lacks the feel. No doubt the film is successful in giving you warmth at many points but at some points it really lacks the fire. For example, at points when Mayra sacrifices for Mohit and spends majority of her income on his expenditures, the heart of audience doesn’t comes out with emotions as it is required to be. I don’t mean that emotions at those points don’t work completely but the overall impact is less than required.

The other major drawback of screenplay is, it has very little dose of humor which plays a significant role in rom-com. There are some funny situations in film but they are all about giggling & smiling. There is hardly any scene where you can laugh out loud. Plus at many points including the ending you feel the film could’ve more freshness to look better.

Dialogues by Leepakshi Ellawadi are very good.

Roma Heer: How was Direction & Performances?

Gautam Batra: Nupur Asthana’s Direction is very good. She has bring out the best she could’ve from this story.

Ayushmann Khurrana as Mohit Chaddha gives a power packed performance. He looks smart & handsome plus never disappoints in acting area. His dialogue delivery has the right spark & he looks perfect in the film.

Sonam Kapoor is good as Mayra but she needs to better herself now as an actor.

Rishi Kapoor is excellent as VK Sehgal – The arrogant yet soft hearted father of Mayra. He lives upto his role & delivers quite good number of laughters specially in second half.

Others are also nice.

Roma Heer: What will you say about Music & Technical Aspects?

Gautam Batra: Raghu Dixit’s Music is average with songs providing little value to film.Hitesh Sonik’s Background Score is good. Lyrics by Anvita Dutt & Habib Faisal are quite good. Neha Parti’s cinematography is very good.

Roma Heer: What will be your Final Verdict & Rating of the film?

Gautam Batra: Bewakoofiyaan has little flavor to woo audience and it will left majority of the audience displeased. Go for Ayushmann Khurrana & Rishi Kapoor’sperformance if you really want to watch the film.

Rating: 2.5 / 5

The film is set to go on the floors this October. While who will play the male lead has not yet been finalized,Imran Khan, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Siddharth Roy are being considered for the role. This will be Sonam’s second political act, considering she played a political activist in Raanjhanaa and was lauded for her performance. The actress who herself is an avid reader has previously worked in Aisha which was also a modern interpretation of Jane Austen’s classic Emma.

While we wait for confirmation on the male lead, we would definitely love to see Abhay Deol play Zain Altaf Khan opposite Sonam, their on-screen chemistry surely works for us!
